Seattle Children’s spinout raises $116 million, opens Eastlake office
BrainChild Bio, a biotech company launched out of Seattle Children’s, raised $116 million in Series A funding to advance new treatments for pediatric brain tumors.
The funding will support upcoming clinical trials for the company’s lead treatment, along with work on other pediatric and adult brain tumors. BrainChild Bio recently moved into an office in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood, with more than half of its 50-plus employees based in Seattle and expects to grow about 70 to 75 employees over the next year. Seattle Children’s and WRF Capital participated in the financing, and founder Michael Jensen previously spent more than 13 years at Seattle Children’s and co-founded Seattle-based Umoja Biopharma and Juno Therapeutics.
BrainChild Bio’s growth and continued ties to Seattle research institutions highlight the potential for locally developed discoveries to support new treatments and life sciences jobs in the region.
