New long-term analysis suggests follicular lymphoma can be cured
A 15-year follow-up analysis led by researchers at Fred Hutch Cancer Center suggests that follicular lymphoma may be curable for some patients treated with chemoimmunotherapy.
Scientists at SWOG, Fred Hutch Cancer Center and the University of Rochester Medical Center analyzed outcomes from 531 patients enrolled in a clinical trial who received CHOP chemotherapy combined with antibody-based immunotherapy. “Follicular lymphoma could be curable, and it could be curable with standard chemo-immunotherapy,” said Dr. Mazyar Shadman. “Now, we can just give the hope [to patients with follicular lymphoma] that yes, you may be someone who, after a few years, we can send back to your primary care provider.”
The findings highlight the impact of long-term clinical research at Seattle institutions and the role of cross-institution collaboration in advancing new understanding and potential treatment outcomes.
