How brain-mapping research by Seattle scientists could help prevent Alzheimer’s

Researchers at Seattle’s Allen Institute for Brain Science have uncovered which cell types are most sensitive to aging, a discovery that could revolutionize the development of treatments aimed at preserving brain function and preventing chronic diseases like Alzheimer’s as people get older.
Dr. Richard Hodes, director of the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health, which funded the research, stated, “This new map may fundamentally alter the way scientists think about how aging affects the brain and also provide a guide for developing new treatments for aging-related brain diseases.”
With this discovery, the Allen Institute continues to position the region on the forefront of breakthrough research.
