WRF awards $272,500 to University of Washington’s Aman Garg to advance catheter technology for complex heart procedures

Washington Research Foundation (WRF) awarded $272,500 to University of Washington researcher Aman Garg to advance the FlexLock Guide Catheter, a device designed to make complex heart procedures safer and more efficient. The funding follows an earlier $110,000 grant awarded in 2025.

Developed at UW’s Transformative Robotics Lab, FlexLock uses an expanding tip to help keep a catheter in place while physicians treat blocked arteries. Early testing showed promising results, and the new funding will support further development and safety testing as the team works toward potential FDA clearance. Garg also co-founded Nimble Surgical to bring the technology to market, with additional support from local organizations including UW CoMotion and the Life Science Washington Institute.

The project demonstrates how Washington’s research institutions and startup support programs can help turn locally developed medical technologies into potential new treatment options.
