Washington Research Foundation awards $275K to support David Koelle’s development of genital herpes vaccine at University of Washington

Washington Research Foundation (WRF) has awarded a $275,000 grant to Dr. David Koelle, a professor of Medicine and Laboratory Medicine & Pathology at the University of Washington.

The funding will support the continued development of a novel messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutic vaccine aimed at improving treatment options for patients with genital herpes. This initiative builds on a previous $100,000 WRF grant that supported early-stage research.

Through its grant programs, WRF reflects Washington state’s broader commitment to funding homegrown innovation and translating life science breakthroughs into real-world impact.
