UW lands $50M from National Science Foundation to lead new center for research security
The University of Washington has been awarded a $50 million grant from the National Science Foundation to spearhead the Safeguarding the Entire Community of the U.S. Research Ecosystem (SECURE) Center, a national consortium dedicated to research security.
The SECURE Center will establish a national infrastructure by forging partnerships with academic institutions, nonprofits and businesses to safeguard the U.S. research investment. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wa.) praised the grant, stating, “This federal funding will provide UW with critical resources to establish a new center to identify threats, make risk-informed decisions, and work with other universities across the U.S. to safeguard domestic research.”
UW’s appointment to lead the SECURE Center is further evidence of the region’s research excellence and the confidence federal institutions have in Washington state’s ability to advance national life science initiatives.
