Kathy Surace-Smith named a PSBJ Director of the Year

An employee at Nanostring Technologies, a Seattle-based biotech startup, was named a Business Journal director of the year for 2023.

Kathy Surace-Smith is senior vice president of Nanostring’s human resources and legal affairs division. She has worked at the company for over 10 years.

Surace-Smith currently serves on two boards, as an immediate past chair for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and a member of Columbia University’s board of trustees.

While discussing her experience with PSBJ, Surace-Smith shared some helpful advice for board members: “…Show up ready to learn. Board members have expertise from their own careers and experiences, but they are not always experts in the field or industry in which they are now board members.”
