Benaroya Research Institute Awarded 16 Million Across 18 Grants in First Half of 2026 to Predict, Prevent, Reverse and Cure Immune System Diseases
Seattle-based Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) received 18 research grants totaling more than $16.2 million during the first half of 2026. The funding will support new and ongoing research focused on immune system diseases, including type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease and cystic fibrosis.
Two of the largest grants, each totaling $4.4 million, will support research into immune tolerance and type 1 diabetes. Another $2.6 million grant will fund research into changes in T cells during the onset of type 1 diabetes. BRI researchers also received funding to advance a broader range of work focused on understanding the immune system and improving potential treatments.
The funding supports continued immune system research in Seattle and adds to the range of life sciences research underway in Washington.
