Variant Bio launches AI-powered platform for drug discovery using genetic data
Variant Bio has launched an AI-powered platform designed to discover new drug candidates using human genetic data.
The private biotech company said its Inference platform applies agentic AI to analyze proprietary and public genomic data from global studies along with other large-scale biological datasets to identify drugs for human trials. Variant Bio also announced a multi-year research collaboration and license agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim focused on discovering treatments for kidney disease, which includes an upfront payment and potential license and milestone payments totaling more than $120 million. The company said the platform is now available to research partners and supports collaborations with several pharmaceutical companies valued at more than $200 million.
The launch reflects continued regional momentum at the convergence of AI and biotech as companies integrate advanced AI technologies to accelerate drug discovery and attract significant pharmaceutical partnerships.
