Anthropic, Gates Foundation launch $200 million partnership for AI in health, education

Anthropic and the Gates Foundation have launched a four-year, $200 million partnership to support artificial intelligence initiatives focused on global health, education, and public-interest research.

The collaboration will combine Anthropic’s AI technology, technical support, and Claude usage credits with grant funding and program expertise from the Gates Foundation to improve language accessibility, educational tools, and healthcare research. One initiative will help research centers use AI to predict drug candidates for HPV and preeclampsia, while Anthropic’s Elizabeth Kelly said the effort reflects the company’s founding mission to “benefit humanity.”

The partnership reflects Washington state’s global influence at the intersection of artificial intelligence and biotechnology, highlighting the region’s role in advancing AI-driven research, drug discovery, and healthcare delivery.
