Novo Nordisk pens $2.1B deal for Omeros’ stalled PNH drug

Novo Nordisk has acquired rights to Omeros’ MASP-3 inhibitor zaltenibart, a rare-disease therapy, in a deal worth up to $2.1 billion, including $340 million in upfront and near-term milestone payments.

Novo Nordisk plans to launch a global Phase 3 program for zaltenibart in paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and expand into other complement-mediated disorders. Omeros’ Phase 2 data had already shown strong efficacy, demonstrating sustained improvements in hemoglobin and prevention of hemolysis.

This agreement highlights Seattle’s leadership in rare-disease innovation, underscoring how biotechs like Omeros continue to drive major global collaborations and strengthen the region’s life sciences ecosystem.
