Gates-backed nuclear power company secures $650 million for expansion

TerraPower, a Bellevue-based nuclear power company, raised $650 million to support the development of its Natrium reactor and energy storage system, one of the fastest and lowest-cost paths to advanced, zero-carbon energy.

The company is building Natrium to demonstrate how a nuclear power plant can provide clean energy when renewable sources such as wind or solar aren’t available. “TerraPower was founded on the idea that innovation in nuclear science could make positive, global impacts,” said CEO Chris Levesque. “This round further establishes that our technologies are the solutions that industry is looking for.”

Backed by Bill Gates, TerraPower continues to position Washington state as a leader in nuclear energy innovation.
