$600,000 in awards against ovarian cancer for Fred Hutch and UW researchers

Fred Hutch Cancer Center and UW Medicine researchers Dr. Megan Shen and Dr. Mary L. “Nora” Disis were awarded $300,000 each by the Rivkin Center and Andy Hill CARE Fund partnership to support projects aimed at improving ovarian cancer outcomes.
Shen will modify the Helping Ovarian Cancer Patients Cope (HOPE) program to support clinicians facing burnout and compassion fatigue. Disis is collaborating with Orlance, a Seattle-based biotech company, to test an innovative method that delivers DNA on gold beads through the skin to improve mucosal immunity.
This cutting-edge work highlights the strength of Seattle’s life sciences sector, where academic institutions and biotech innovators are working together to lead breakthroughs in cancer treatment.
