AMD Invests in Drug-Discovery Company Absci in Push to Sell AI Chips

Absci, a drug discovery company based in Vancouver, Washington, secured a $20 million investment from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to integrate the company’s AI chips into its operations, optimizing costs and computational power for drug discovery.

Absci will use the new funding to continue building its AI models and improving its internal drug development efforts. Sean McClain, Absci’s CEO, stated, “We’re starting to see this big shift from designing drugs in the wet lab to now designing drugs on AI, and that means compute is extremely important. Our compute spend has skyrocketed.”

Seattle is rapidly emerging as a prominent hub for AI-powered drug development, with companies like Absci at the forefront.
