Report: UW infused nearly $21 billion into state economy last year

The University of Washington infused $20.9 billion into Washington state’s economy last year, with UW Medicine accounting for $12.5 billion through its support of 60,700 jobs, $588.3 million in state and local tax revenue and $2.6 billion in research.

“As this report makes clear, the UW is making an impact that betters our state’s economy and improves the health and the lives of everyone we serve,” said UW President Ana Mari Cauce. “We are proud to contribute and to help make all people in Washington thrive.”

The University of Washington remains a cornerstone of the state’s economy and life science sector, driving job creation, scientific breakthroughs and technological advancement statewide.
