Bill Gates-backed TerraPower Isotopes produces rare, radioactive ingredient sought for cancer drugs

TerraPower Isotopes, a subsidiary of nuclear power startup TerraPower, has become the first commercial-scale producer of actinium-225, a promising radioactive isotope derived from Cold War weapons waste that holds significant potential for cancer therapies.

Scott Claunch, president of TerraPower Isotopes, states, “I really believe that in the future, we will utilize targeted radiotherapy as a pillar for how we treat disease.”

Located in Everett, Washington, and backed by Bill Gates, TerraPower Isotopes is set to advance cancer treatment by producing enough actinium-225 to support up to 400,000 doses of targeted therapies per year.
